I am sure you remember the early 70's when gas was about $0.30 per gallon. Then the oil embargo and we were going to run out of crude within a few years and gas was in short supply. Every station had to get new pumps because they could only price gas at a max of .49 9/10. For awhile we had to double the price on the pump. Why don't they get rid of the 9/10 and post as is. They will not give me my 1/10 of cent in change back to me.

Every day that I'm on the road with the big truck I have them idiots to deal with all off the time.

We had a horsemanship clinic here at the stable I run. Three people drove in from Pennsylvania. They were traveling the Ohio Turnpike in the center lane at above posted speed. A truck rode the ass of the third trailer and then laid on the horn. Then he passed the three horse trailers and slammed on the brakes. People are rude, nasty, and selfish. As a farmer who handles 400 dairy cows weekly, horses daily plus my own cattle and sheep, bale hay and harvest my corn with a corn picker. The most dangerous thing I do is drive a tractor down the road.

I wonder if a propane cannon would keep the birds off that field. Holy crap, that was close. I do not miss the impatient, inconsiderate morons that have no common sense when we had a large hay operation and traveled all the time on the road. I still get people passing me while hauling equipment or material with the dump truck.

We may actually be brothers from another mother. We are the same age and my dad also taught me the retail/wholesale thing from a very young age. My dad nearly went broke farming in the early 70’s and ended up switching to a farm stand, grower direct model. He put in a petting zoo and adopted agri tourism when that wasn’t even a thing. He repaid every debt and became wildly successful. He would always shake his head at farmers because they never set their own prices like he did. When I started farming on my own I stayed away from the sueing public and he thought that I lost my mind. Instead I started growing specialty crops for seed. Almost everything I grew was contracted and the price was set when the seed went in the ground. I guess it worked because I retired at 50.

When I get behind a piece of farm equipment, I hit my 4 ways, and wait for a safe place to pass. Every 1 of about 200 do that when they get behind me on a tractor and machine behind it. But I see plenty of stupid people just trying to get 30 seconds ahead of me, only to turn.🙄

That pickup situation WAS very close - and they'll try to blame the farmer. A few weeks ago, my friend Cory needed a couple loads of limestone, so i was on the way to the quarry in my dumptruck. Believe me, it's made for hauling and not for speed, so I'm definitely not gonna set any land speed records or anything. I reached the intersection at the local small town, where I have to be on a four-lane for about 4 miles. I was stopped at the light and made the turn when the light turned and the traffic stopped. In the direction I was going, the highway has a pretty steep hill in it, and I was doing my best to "accelerate" up the hill. I was in the right-hand lane like I should be and there was someone in the left lane passing me. Traffic was not heavy. Suddenly I heard a horn blaring and a small car (that tries to sound like a race car - you know the type) was passing me on the right on the shoulder of the road. There is a Jersey barrier with a chain-link fence on it on the edge of the shoulder. How that car had enough room to pass me there at that high speed, I'll never know. He laid on the horn, and as he blasted me, he threw me the "one-finger salute", as if I was doing something wrong. If I had been in the fast lane and really holding up the faster traffic, I could understand, but I was where I was supposed to be, trying to be courteous. What an a$$hole! Like you said, I have as much right on the road as he does.

I’ve not figured it out about peoples driving knowledge other than they are just plain stupid! I was driving a semi tender truck on a truck route through town and had to make a left hand turn and at this intersection there’s a four foot wide white line marking the traffic in that lane to stop behind the line. if not trucks don’t have enough room to make the turn. This young lady has her whole vehicle past the line blocking me from making the turn. I started making the turn anyway and she figured out real quick like that I was going to roll over top of her car so she started backing up an I kept moving forward until she was behind the line cranked down my window and she roll hers down and I told her in a nice tone that thats what line was there for people to stop behind it so that trucks could turn at this intersection. You never in all your days saw anyone so confused in all your life. She looked as if I told her the secrets of life. And just have to say that people who pass on a double lined road are very stupid and if they did have a head on and did survive the accident than they just might spend some serious time in prison if others got injured. It seems to me that speed limit, information signs, yield and stop signs are just useless to most driver anymore. Our county sheriff deputies are stopping and writing tickets for the rolling stop sign maneuvers to these special drivers whom these signs aren’t meant for drivers. These special drivers exist everywhere and they pull the same stupid crap in southern Indiana as they do in New York.
